Extension educator offers tips to help prepare cattle for severe winter weather
High winds coupled with severe or prolonged cold weather cause additional stress on your herd.
If you are a rancher with cattle on pastures here are a few tips to help them cope with the large snowstorms.
A Beef Extension Educator says that making sure cattle have access to water is the number one priority.
Next up is providing protection from the wind, including shelters, sheds, or windbreakers. Maybe moving them along a treeline. He also cautions producers against putting too many animals into one area.
Lastly, he reminds producers to continue to monitor herds for any symptoms of respiratory infections.
