FAO Food Price Index falls for the 5th month, but still higher on the year

Global food prices continue to drop but still remain higher compared to a year ago.

Today’s FAO Food Price Index showed a drop in August of nearly 2 percent, but it is still almost 8 percent higher on the year. The August decline was much less than July’s, which came in at nearly 9 percent.

Vegetable oil, dairy, meat, and sugar all fell less than 4 percent.
