The Farm Bureau says that boosting funds for the Commodity Credit Corporation is a priority.
It is asking Congress to up the funding to $68 billion dollars, either through coronavirus relief legislation or the appropriations bill.
The Bureau’s public policy director says that the CCC needs fixing to ensure long-term stability for the ag sector.
According to Ryan Yates, “One of the things that hasn’t occurred is indexing to inflation. So, I think you’ve got two issues here. One is, working with Congress to look at funding it at a level that is in line with inflation... In therms of immediate relief, immediate action, I think that’s when we’ve been working with Congress on, be it CARES or other pieces of legislation to get those dollars either directly to the Secretary or CCC for program implementation and funding.”
