The American Farm Bureau Federation wants more time for farmer to sign up for CFAP.
The group and 27 other ag organizations sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Ag, Sonny Perdue, asking USDA to extend the application deadline. It is set to close August 28th, but the AFBF says that it could exclude some producers who are eligible for the much-needed financial support.
The groups are also urging USDA to increase outreach through local FSA offices to provide more help and support for farmers trying to apply.
Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow comments on USDA’s rules saying, “Any limits they feel they have are self-imposed. They may have tied their own hands be deciding to limit their losses to mid-April. They can untie their hands very easily and meet the requirements that were mandated under the CARES Act if they want to.”
