A group of ag leaders and farmers traveled to Capitol Hill this week to meet with lawmakers over trade policy. A big topic of discussion was Mexico’s upcoming ban on GMO corn.
The president of the Corn Refiners Association has high hopes the U.S. and Mexico will soon reach an agreement.
“I have high confidence in the government leaders in Mexico and the U.S. to resolve this matter in compliance with USMC. I was in Mexico City a couple of weeks ago and the Minister of Economy assured me that Mexico would comply with its USMCA requirements. So, this will be resolved, I’m confident because that’s in the best interest of Mexican consumers if they don’t want their food prices to go skyrocketing,” said John Bode.
These ag leaders and farmers will remain in Washington over the next week. During that time, they will meet with more than 30 legislators as part of the group’s Farmers For Free Trade.
