USDA touts the success of the Farmers To Families Food Box Program.
Leaders say that it provides jobs for farmers and distributors and supplies highly demanded produce to food banks and nonprofits.
“This is only the beginning for the program.....and with continued support...we expect up to 40 million boxes will be delivered throughout the country by June 30th,” USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue said.
“They put that program together in just a little over a month, which is really quick...We’re excited to be involved with it... we’re really committed to running this program in a way that is cost efficient, effective, and timely,” USDA Ag Marketing Service Administrator Bruce Summers added.
Summers says that they have deliver 6.5 million boxes so far and that number keeps growing.
