FarmHer Featured on “Home & Family”

January 31, 2018

Iowa photographer and advocate for women in agriculture, Marji Guyler-Alaniz, founder and president of “FarmHer” visited the set of Hallmark’s “Home & Family” on January 25, 2018. Hosts Mark Steines and Debbie Matenopoulos asked her what inspired the show and showcased some of her recent work.

Before it was a show, “FarmHer” was an idea crafted by Marji Guyler-Alaniz of Urbandale, Iowa. Marji is a gifted photographer and passionate storyteller who is committed to changing the image of agriculture. And while she is more comfortable behind the lens, Marji has her own story to tell. Check out our previous interview with the FarmHer founder, “Meet Marji.”

According to the USDA’s most recent census report, the number of women-led farms has tripled over the past four decades and remains one of the fastest-growing groups in the United States. Today females make up 32% of the farming workforce and are almost one million women strong. Despite these powerful statistics, female farmers have often gone unnoticed in farm imagery…until now. “FarmHer” focuses its camera lens on women in agriculture through the eyes of photographer and TV host Marji Guyler-Alaniz, who takes viewers coast to coast on a journey capturing the story of women and their connection to the land through her camera.

Each episode features a glimpse of agriculture through a unique lens: The female perspective. The women of “FarmHer” are passionate and determined to make a difference in the lives of their families, communities and around the world. Some have been through tragedy, others have seen victory … but all of them are connected through their love of agriculture.
