Federal Trade Commission trade shows support for USDA’s proposed poultry contract rule

The chair of the Federal Trade Commission has thrown her support towards the Poultry Growing Systems Rule.

Lina Kahn says the plan would be an important first step towards a more fair, competitive, and resilient food system. She admits additional policy work is needed to prohibit unfair practices that could come from market concentration.

The National Chicken Council has long been in disagreement with the rule, calling on USDA to withdraw it. They say it will ultimately raise costs for both producers and consumers.
