Disruptions in the supply chain have had a great impact on the food sector.
Many grocery stores and restaurants are still trying to recover from the pandemic and now they are facing challenges caused by the war in Ukraine. The Food Marketing Institute says for the first time, consumers are finally realizing how complex the supply chain can be, and a problem anywhere along the chain, even as small as a label, can reduce the amount of product available.
“Some of our members are having difficulty obtaining printer ink for the labels on their packages, so maybe not what you think of directly as being engaged with food, but very much so a part of the food supply chain.”
Andy Harig says the main problem for the industry is being able to find enough workers and keep them.
