Foreign investment may be as harmful as foreign ownership for the U.S. farm sector

Our greatest foreign ag concerns may not be the ownership of U.S. farmland, but foreign investment in agricultural business and research.

This is according to one of the witnesses questioned by Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith during a hearing on the subject yesterday.

During the hearing, the discussion also included calls for stronger laws surrounding the purchasing of farmland in the U.S. by foreign entities, as well as the role of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.
