From tending fields to fighting fires

Farmers... pulling double duty as firefighters!

A Nebraska sheriff says that more than 100 farmers helped prevent major losses from wildfires near Lincoln.
He says that producers in the area of two big fires got in their tractors and created fire breaks around homes nearby.

Farmers also turned on irrigation systems to help keep flames from spreading.

Sheriff Wagner says, “It was well orchestrated. They did a great job in limiting the amount of property damage that could have occurred.”
