A generous donation takes the pressure off Nebraska and Wyoming landowners after a canal collapse.
When the Ft. Laramie canal collapsed in July, more than 100-thousand acres of crops were left without water. In order to pay for the repairs, the district is raising irrigation assessment fees but a 131-thousand dollar donation will help offset those increases.
The Art and Pat Damrow Trust donated the money. A trustee says the donors spent their life dedicated to agriculture. The ‘repair draft plans’ include digging a new canal, which could take about 2 years. Water will still be available through the current fix.
