LUBBOCK, Texas (RFD News) — The Global Sorghum Conference is making its first United States appearance this week, bringing researchers, producers, students, and industry leaders to Lubbock for five days focused on sorghum science, markets, and production. The conference runs September 14-18 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
Monty Christian of Texas Tech University told the Agribusiness Report that more than 350 people from 20 countries are participating, along with roughly 60 students. Texas Tech secured the event after working with national sorghum organizations, university leaders, and the City of Lubbock.
The program includes research presentations, workshops, industry panels, networking, and discussions covering genetics, crop resilience, water efficiency, new markets, and sorghum silage.
Organizers intentionally scheduled the conference during the West Texas harvest so participants can see commercial sorghum production and research plots firsthand. Friday includes scientific research and commercial production tours.
Texas Tech says the event is designed to strengthen collaboration between researchers and producers while advancing practical solutions for sorghum production worldwide.
