Grand Champion Steer Breaks Records at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Sale of Champions

At the Fort Worth Stock Show on Friday, February 7, a 1-year-old polled Hereford named Cupid Shuffle — raised by 12-year-old Ryder Day from Meadow, Texas — was named Grand Champion Steer of the Show, becoming the first Hereford to earn the title since 1982.

The following morning the Grand Champion set another record, bringing in a $300,000 at auction during the Fort Worth Stock Show Syndicate’s Sale of Champions.

He was purchased by Gary and Kathy Buchholz of GBK Cattle Company in Waxahachie, Texas.

When reporter Kirbe Schnoor asked Mr. Buchholz why he feels it’s important to support our youth through the Sale of Champions, he simply answers, “Because they’re our future.”
