Groups Call For Stop To Nebraska Livestock Farms

Groups petition to stop large livestock operations in Nebraska.

Citizen and environmental groups unveiled their change.org petition Monday calling for a temporary stop to what they call “factory farms.” The coalition told Norfolk Daily News the moratorium is needed because state and local zoning laws are inadequate to deal with large confined animal feeding operations. They say most county zoning regulations “are 40 years out of date.”

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts reacted saying:

Let’s be clear: the out-of-state environmental lobbying groups rallying opposition against our family farmers in Nebraska are anti-agriculture. Left unchecked, they would destroy our way of life.
