Hope the world is ready for some Pacific Northwest pears!

The Pacific Northwest is ready to supply the world with pears!

The Pear Bureau Northwest says that harvest this go around was much better due to not having snow sitting on the fruits. The group predicts more than 15 million standard box equivalents this season, which is on par with the four-year average.

Organic pears account for two million of those boxes.
Canada and Mexico are the top destinations for these northwest pears, but there is work underway to increase markets.

According to Jim Morris, “We’ve been working with markets globally for quite some time now. They’re just not as big as Mexico and Canada markets, but those are markets that we’ve already been shipping to.”

Efforts are underway to increase shipments to Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Israel, Columbia, and India.
