House Republicans are still trying to choose a new speaker as big decisions on the Farm Bill continue to remain on hold.
Two Congressmen are looking to take on the job, and both have a lengthy history with agriculture. Steve Scalise of Lousiana and Jim Jordan have both spent time debating next year’s USDA Spending Bill and both were willing to allow deep cuts.
Both also voted to roll back spending for NRCS to 2016 levels. GOP lawmakers are expected to meet behind closed doors today. They are looking to vote on a rules change to raise the threshold to win the Speaker nomination.
Several lawmakers have said they are not sure if a Speaker will be elected by the end of the week.
