Several pipeline projects are underway across the farm country, but some analysts are questioning their effectiveness.
The majority of carbon captured from ethanol plants comes from the fermentation process. Companies say current projects would be the same as removing 4 million cars off the road each year. While it is a lot, analysts with the North Dakota Monitor say there is still a lot of carbon entering the atmosphere, pointing to emissions from commercial drying equipment and boilers.
They say that around 7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide enter the atmosphere each year.
