Immigration Reform: Lawmaker wants colleagues to fix the “broken system”

With work set to resume shortly on Capitol Hill, an Illinois lawmaker is urging colleagues to fix what she calls a broken immigration system. Representative Nikki Burdzinski says action on that front could ease labor challenges faced by farmers and ranchers.

She sits on the House Ag Committee and tells Brownfield Ag News that current events on the southern border are just part of a bigger problem. she is calling for more services in order to process people who want to work in the United States.

It has largely been a partisan issue in Washington, but she says it is important to put politics aside and work together. Just recently, a Congressman from Colorado introduced the Affordable and Secure Food Act, aimed at addressing ag labor shortages.
