Inflation is leveling off, according to the latest Consumer Price Index

Inflation appears to be leveling off. This month’s Consumer Price Index is right in line with expectations.

It rose 0.2 percent in July, which is right on target with analyst expectations. On the year, it rose 2.9 percent. The markets were expecting a 3 percent rise.

Shelter was the category with the largest climb, rising 0.4 percent. Food went down by 2 percent.
