Iowa community takes big employment hit with the closure of Tyson pork processing plant

Tyson Foods announced the permanent closure of its Perry Pork Packing Plant located in Iowa.

The closure affects more than 1,200 employees, raising concerns about the economic impact on the community. The plant played a significant role in the pork industry, processing about 9,000 hogs daily, marking a notable setback for both the local economy and pork producers in the region.

Tyson says it encourages workers to apply for new positions within the company. Perry has historically relied on the plant as a key employer.
