“It’s Only About the Money": NCBA says lab-grown protein investments aren’t about sustainability

Lab-grown meat has drawn a lot of criticism since its inception. The industry says it is all about sustainability but beef groups disagree, urging everyone to follow the money.

NCBA’s Ethan Lane points to a $30 million grant from the Bezos Earth Fund to NC State for biomanufacturing. Lane says none of it has to do with sustainability but rather money. He says bio-meats are largely unvetted, and grants like that are only about business and the money that follows.

So far, the Fund, started by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has committed $100 million to open-access research on protein alternatives.
