Historic cold and a series of winter storms caused hardship on livestock producers across the southern plains, and also created feeding difficulties, especially forage.
Kansas farmer Dennis Nelson speaks with RFD-TV on current conditions in his area and the state of hay.
“The hay thing is coming back. We just had a flat there for a while because people had their cattle out in stock fields... They thought they had themselves covered pretty good. When that snow came along and covered up all the stocks and the cold weather started taking a lot out of the old cows and stuff, we’re seeing a big jump in demand. Prices are steady and up a little. The bigger thing that we’re going to have to deal with in the near future is energy costs,” Nelson explains.
