On Jan. 29, the day before his death, 55-year-old Kevin Adkins had one wish: to see his beloved 27-year-old horse Vic one more time.

Adkins had been battling cancer for 3 years but prior to his diagnosis, he spent every day for almost 20 years watching and caring for Vic. He even did so many days while he was battling cancer.

“It’s truly a love story between a man and a horse,” Jennifer Wadley, who sold Adkins the horse told KAKE. “It was just an unbelievable friendship.”

The reunion was made possible by Kevin’s daughter Delaney.

Vic will serve as honorary pallbearer at Adkins’ funeral, which is Feb. 15.

The Kevin B. Adkins Cowboy Relief Fund has been established to honor Adkins. It will be used to help other ranching families in the area.
