When Kaycee Feild and Virgil get together, expect fireworks.

The four-time world bareback riding champion rode the two-time Bareback Riding Horse of the Year for 93 points in Sunday’s shootout round to win RFD-TV’s The American.

If that sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Feild scored 90.75 on Virgil in 2018 to win the shootout.

“That was probably the most memorable ride I have ever had in my career. I could hear his feet hitting the ground. I could hear my spurs hitting his neck,” Feild said. “Then, getting off and hearing that crowd was a special moment for me.”

Feild was visibly fired up after his ride knowing he had just topped 2019 world champion Clayton Biglow’s 91.75-point ride.

Feild was the top qualifier for the final 4 shootout round after rides of 87.00 and 87.50 in Saturday and Sunday’s long rounds earned him an aggregate score of 174.50.

Feild will get to count $50,000 of his $100,000 winnings in the PRCA World Standings, which he says will allow him to rodeo smarter as the 33-year-old cowboy starts getting closer to the end.

“I don’t want to be one of those guys who goes until he’s 40, but at the same time I have big goals I want to accomplish. I have big things I want to do in this sport, and this helps a lot,” he said. “This helps me chase down a world title. I’m going to RodeoHouston after this, and then I’m going to go home, take care of my body and get ready for the summer and hit the rodeo trail really hard, harder than I did last year. I want to do this and win a world title and hang my hat up on top.”

After his ride, Feild noted his appreciation for The American, not just as a standalone event, but for the impact it has had on ProRodeo at-large.

“It’s just a neat thing, it really is,” he said. “Hats off to Randy Bernard for changing the sport, there’s so many better rodeos now, so much more money added, just because of this rodeo here, The American. What this rodeo has done for me and my family is just amazing, it’s changed my life.”

Feild has now won more than $533,000 at The American in the last three years.
