Lawmakers are eyeing emergency relief for farmers impacted by Hurricane Helene

Farmers along the East Coast are still working to dig out from the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene.

Producers in Georgia took a hard hit and Congressional ag leaders say they are already looking ahead to getting those growers some much-needed help.

“When we get back to Washington, there will be a bipartisan disaster relief package passed with regard to agriculture as most of you probably know on the Vice Chair of the Ag Committee. I hope that our format will be very similar to what we did in Hurricane Michael, where we worked with the land grant institutions to calculate the value of the crop losses and then get as much as we could back to the states,” said Rep. Austin Scott.

Cotton, peanut crops, pecans, poultry, and timber were all impacted by the storm. President Biden is set to visit the Carolinas this afternoon to meet with FEMA and take an aerial tour of the damage.
