Lawmakers are putting the spotlight on bio-based product enhancement

Biobased products are the future and were a topic of discussion recently in Washington. Representatives Zach Nunn and Nikki Budzinski highlighted the need to enhance USDA’s Biorefinery Assistance Program.

“This bipartisan proposal improves the USDA’s Biorefinery, Renewable Chemical, and Biobased Product Manufacturing Assistance Program by creating a grant within the program for the construction and expansion of new or existing biorefineries,” said Representative Zach Nunn.

Budzinski pointed to the role of infrastructure in creating new markets for farmers.

“Bioprocessing is an incredibly important element happening in central and southern Illinois’ initiative. Our hard-working Illinois farmers are the backbone of the economy for the state, and I believe we should be creating more unique and innovative opportunities for our farmers.”

She also highlighted the significance of infrastructure in creating new markets for fuels, feed, and textiles, saying it will propel farmers into the future.
