Lawmakers want a Farm Bill extension, but GT Thompson says it’s not a good idea

Senate ag leaders are pushing to extend the 2018 Farm Bill for another year, but the House Ag Chair says he has concerns.

Senator GT Thompson is not ruling it out, but says he is worried an extension will delay the Senate’s work on the new Farm Bill.

He tells AgriPulse he wants to make sure lawmakers are doing their jobs. Thompson is still trying to move a Farm Bill forward and he is trying to reach across the aisle to find ways to pay for it.

He is currently looking at updates to the Thrifty Food Plan, which could save as much as $20 billion.
