Leap Coalition works to protect farmers from heir’s property

The Leap Coalition works to help black farmers secure the title to their property to prevent wrongful land loss.

Heir’s property happens when land is split between multiple owners because the previous owner did not leave a will. Leap says this is the leading cause of black farmers involuntarily losing their land, due to one owner selling their part of the land, the other owners are at risk for a forced sale.

Leap shares another problem with this is that black farmers are not able to use the land as collateral. Several states are seeking action to prevent this from happening.
