Legendary broadcaster Hugh Downs dies at age 99

Emmy-winning broadcaster Hugh Downs has died at the age of 99.

Downs was on television screens throughout the nation for more than 60 years, appearing on 20/20, Today Show and Concentration. Downs made his first news broadcast in 1945 and once held the record for greatest number of hours on network commercial television. The record was broken by Regis Philbin in 2004.

A spokesperson for the family said he died in his Scottsdale, Arizona home surrounded by loved ones. The spokesperson also made clear that he did not have COVID-19.
