Maersk orders container vessels capable of running on green methanol

Ag shipping giant, Maersk recently bought six container vessels from China’s Shipbuilding Group that can run on green methanol.

The company’s chief infrastructure officer says it is a step in the right direction.

“With this order, we take another step in the green transformation of our fleet and towards our target of becoming net-zero by 2040.”

The ships can carry upwards of 9,000 containers, and the deliveries will begin in 2026 to replace existing vessels in the fleet.
