Maine voters approved a first in the national amendment that establishes a “right to food.”
It means Maine residents have a right to grow and eat the food of their liking without government interference to meet their dietary needs, as long as someone does not trespass or abuse public lands.
Opponents say it was written so broadly it could override animal cruelty laws or open the gate for backyard livestock production.
