A fisherman from Brandon, Mississippi has set a new state record!

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Park has confirmed Eugene Cronley’s 131-pound blue catfish as a new record. Mr. Cronley reeled it in from the Mississippi River after a 45-minute battle with the monster.

According to the department’s Facebook post, he said, “It is truly a fish of a lifetime.”

The previous rod-and-reel record was set in 2009 and weighed only 95-pounds. The largest blue catfish caught by a team was 101 pounds back in 1997.
