It is an honor in south Texas to harvest the first bale of cotton and one farmer in Mercedes won out.
“I not only delivered one but delivered two bales to them. So, it wasn’t because I was trying to get two bales, it was just because I couldn’t figure out how much 1,500 pounds of lint was in a basket,” Mike England said. “So, I just picked until I knew I had enough and took it up there.”
The fields also seem to be ready to have a good season coming.
“Right now the cotton is looking food, it’s working hard trying to produce a lot of fruit. You know it’s going to be a while before we find out what kind of crop we have,” England said.
