The U.S. Trade Representative’s Office has given Mexico a deadline of tomorrow to explain the science behind its GM corn ban.
The dispute threatens to disrupt billions of dollars in corn trade between the U.S. and Mexico. Doug McKalip says Mexico has rejected 14 agriculture product traits, but has not provided any justification.
“We want to make sure that they do the science, show their work, and make decisions based upon risk assessments,” said McKalip.
The U.S. recently warned it would take formal steps under the USMCA to settle the dispute.
