Eminent domain continues to be a big issue in agriculture. A newly introduced bill in Indiana aims to prevent cities from taking ground away from farmers, by putting rural land owners on a level playing field.
Jeff Meyer, the President and CEO of Meyers Food Inc., speaks with RFD-TV’s own Tammi Arender on how big of an issue this is, what the bill aims to do, and the long-term rural benefits.
According to Meyer, “Basically what it is, is just cities decided that they wanted to be a little bit bigger. So, they go and get the domain out of the county into the city, and really the county does not have a say in it and the property owner really doesn’t have a say in it either.... the playing field has really never been on an even kill when it comes to the property owner and the farmers.”
