Milk production in the country’s top 24 producing states reached 17.038 billion pounds in February, up 5.6 percent from the previous year.
Production was roughly 1,927 pounds per cow, which was 94 pounds higher than last February. The overall number of milk cows in the U.S. is 8.84 million head, which is an increase of 39,000 for the year so far.
The extra day for the Leap Year was factored into the data.
The top producing states were California, Wisconsin and Idaho.
