“Misty of Chincoteague” Ranch to hit market soon

Beebe Ranch is located in Chincoteague, Virginia. It is not only a staple in the state’s equine industry but American literature!

For 100 years, the Beebe family have run the ranch, but it has come time to sell. Currently, the Museum of Chincoteague is looking to buy the property; it would act as an extension of the museum. Organizers call it a “colossal, grassroots effort to preserve the ranch for future generations, keep a treasured part of Chincoteague intact, and support the mission of the museum to protect history,” WRD reports.

Part of the ranch’s significance is that it was the setting for the popular children’s book Misty of Chincoteague. That book was written by Marguerite Henry and published in 1947. It follows the story of two children who live on Chincoteague Island and their journey with a horse named Misty.

The museum hopes to raise $625,000 dollars to buy the ranch.
