Mosquitoes killing livestock in the Gulf Coast

Right now farm communities along the Gulf Coast are waiting for Tropical Storm Sally, which could bring flash flooding, but portions of Louisiana are still being impacted by Hurricane Laura, with clouds of mosquitoes killing livestock.

A veterinarian from Ville Platte tells the Associated Press, the swarms are feeding on cattle and horses. The animals lose blood, and become exhausted from constantly moving to fend off the bloodsuckers.

Dr. Craig Fontenot estimates hundreds of cattle and a few horses have been killed in his five parish area. The LSU AgCenter says that agents are spraying in an attempt to thin the hordes.
