Murray State University Expands Breathitt Veterinary Center

May 18, 2017

NASHVILLE, Tenn (RFD-TV) Kentucky’s Murray State University recently opened an expanded veterinary center. The 77,000 square feet building is nearly twice the size of the 44,000-square-foot original building and offers services for the livestock, poultry and equine industries. Kentucky Farm Bureau funded the expansion with the belief that the Breathitt Veterinary Center will benefit the state.

The BVC was opened in 2016 as a fully accredited care facility for all animal species by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.

“Today we continue to lay the groundwork for future funding needs and make sure it always meets the needs of Kentucky agriculture,” says David S. Beck, Executive Vice President of the Kentucky Farm Bureau.

The facility features include a “biosafety level 3 suite,” which handles high impact diseases and bioterrorism agents. The center affords valuable educational and experiential learning opportunities for Murray State students who are pursuing degrees through the Hutson School of Agriculture.
