National Farmers Union on President Trump’s decision on “gap year”

President Trump directs the EPA to reject dozens of gap year, small refinery exemption petitions. It is a welcomed move for the nation’s biofuel advocates.

National Farmers Union biofuels advisor, Anne Steckel speaks with RFD-TV on the hurdles that gap year exemptions have caused and the value of President Trump’s order to reject them.

According to Steckel, “The small refinery exemption has really been an issue for the biofuels industry for the past few years. Unfortunately, what we’ve seen are the granting of these exemptions to refiners from their obligations to use renewable fuels as mandated by the RFS, and so unfortunately, we lost, over the last few years, well over four billion gallons of demand that was really destroyed by the granting of these exemptions.”
