Enrollment for the Dairy Margin Coverage opens on Tuesday. The program offers protection to producers struggling with negative profit margins.
“What’s really important for farmers to keep in mind is that this is an essential risk management program heading into 2021, which is going to be a year when robust risk management is going to be essential,” said National Milk the Producers Federation’s Alan Bjerga. “One of the issues with the Dairy Margin Coverage Program is that you only get the benefits for it if you sign up for it. This year has been a hard lesson for a lot of producers in terms of the importance of having that strong safety net constructed through your risk management programs.”
