National Sorghum Producers: Chinese demand for U.S. sorghum remains strong

Sorghum is a diverse crop, with lots of farmers using it in their rotations. China is a major buyer of the U.S. crop, and there has been solid demand this year.

“Demand is really good when we look at not only the sales going into May, June, July, August but also the shipments we have had, boats just constantly at Corpus Christi and at Houston loading sort of them as soon as it basically comes out of the field headed to China. Certainly that is a bright spot. Basis has been very strong on the Gulf Coast, and it has pulled the grain to market immediately, and the boats are being loaded. Realistically give us another 20-30 days here, and the South Texas sorghum will just be gone,” said National Sorghum Producers CEO Tim Lust.

Last year, Lust says the industry was plagued by transportation and logistics issues around the Panama Canal.
