Nebraska Sen. Fischer looks forward to DOJ report on livestock market probe

The agriculture industry and farm state lawmakers continue to react to USDA’s livestock market probe. The agency reports “findings thus far do not preclude the possibility that individual entities or groups of entities violated the Packers and Stockyards Act during the aftermath of the Tyson Holcomb fire and the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer says that there are laws that need to be followed and is looking forward to a report from the Justice Department. “When you have four big packers that control over 80 percent of the markets, there’s going to be some issues there.”

The Senator goes on to state: “I think that’s why it’s so important for the Department of Justice, the investigation that they’re doing, that they can gather information, that they can gather evidence... We need to know if there’s any kind of illegal activity that has been occurring or has not been occurring.”
