New rules are now in place regarding the labeling of genetically modified foods.
Products previously labeled “genetically engineered” or containing “genetically modified organisms” will now carry a label saying “bioengineered.”
They could include a phone number or a QR code directing consumers to more information.
USDA says that the new federal standard replaces a patchwork of state regulations, but advocacy groups say that the new rules do not go far enough.
The National Academy of Sciences and the FDA says that eating bioengineered foods poses no risk to human health.
