New York City is moving to renewable diesel by the end of 2024

The Big Apple is well on its way to finalizing a switch to renewable diesel, ditching fossil fuels for thousands of heavy-duty vehicles.

Officials there say more than 12,000 heavy-duty vehicles in the city’s care will operate on renewable diesel by the end of next year. The move will replace around 16 million gallons of traditional diesel fuel and will mainly affect garbage trucks and ambulances.

The transition began in September with nearly 3 million gallons of renewable diesel already used across the city.
