A couple in Pennsylvania has been charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty following the death of their horse in December of 2019.

Kenneth and Jean Brenneman both face three additional misdemeanors as well.

According to the Lancaster Country District Attorney’s Office, the couple’s horse was found sick and in need of help outside of the couple’s residence. Police were called after a passerby stopped to help the animal.

In a statement to WGAL, the Lancaster County DA’s office said the horse died of emaciation and also had severe dental issues.

The couple was formally charged Wednesday and their bail was set at $250,000.
