Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue voiced concern about the number of refinery waivers, arguing they reduce corn demand and impact farmer’s bottom lines.
To offset losses by waivers, the Trump Administration reportedly proposed lifting corn-based ethanol by 500 million gallons and the biodiesel mandate by 250 million. But there’s not any official confirmation of that proposal.
According to Reuters, the number of small refinery waivers issued by EPA quadrupled after Trump was elected in 2016.
