Plant closures back up farms

Plant closures across the country are causing back ups on producers’ farms.

Dr. Bob Thaler, a swine specialist, says that many pig producers are having to hold their pigs because there is no market for them. However, hogs cannot be held long.

This back up on farms also adds to the financial cost of livestock. NCBA CEO Collin Woodall stated, “That extra feed does cost...There’s only so much we can do regarding sickness in workers, because you just can’t go out and bring the National Guard in to start processing meat.”
