Potentially historic May snowstorm headed for Northeast

A May snowstorm is in the making for the Northeast this weekend, and it may bring historic snow totals to the region.

On Friday, a storm system will mix with cold arctic air from the polar vortex, bringing the potential for heavy, wet snow across the interior Northeast and New England.

Snowfall totals are ranging from a dusting all the way to eight inches in some spots, while isolated areas in New England may see up to a foot of snow.

If that happens it would shatter May snowfall records. As if the snow wasn’t enough, there will be wind gusts over 40 mph across the region.

The last time New York dropped into the 30s in May was in 1978.
